Day Before

Confirm registration and tee time
Review course layout/scorecard online
Pack golf bag (clubs, balls, tees, ball marker, divot repair tool)
Charge GPS device or phone
Check weather forecast and plan attire
Lay out golf clothes and shoes
Pack rain gear (jacket, umbrella, towel)
Fill water bottles, pack snacks
Set alarm — plan to arrive 1 hour before tee time

Morning Of

Eat a good breakfast
Apply sunscreen before leaving
Arrive at course 45–60 minutes early
Visit pro shop to check in
Purchase range balls for warm-up
Warm up: start with wedges, work up to driver
Spend 10 minutes putting
Hit a few bunker shots if bunker practice is available
Review local rules posted at the course
Use the restroom before heading to the tee

On Course

Keep the scorecard — track scores for your player AND their playing partner
Carry extra balls, tees, and a towel
Encourage after every shot (good AND bad)
Help with pace of play — be ready when it’s your player’s turn
Manage hydration — offer water every 3 holes
Offer snacks at the turn (hole 9) or every 4–5 holes
Know the drop/relief rules for common situations
Stay positive — body language matters
Don’t use your phone during play (set to silent)

After Round

Review scorecard together — focus on highlights
Debrief positively: "What was your favorite shot?"
Celebrate effort, not just the score
