Have them stand in golf shoes with their back against a wall, and measure to the top of the head. Junior sets are sized by height, not age, because two 9-year-olds can be 8 inches apart.
Only within the maker's height range. Clubs that are too long force a flat, handsy swing that is hard to unlearn. Picking the set inside the range with the most growing room gets you the extra season safely.
Most teen sets top out around 5′9″. Past that, standard adult-length clubs fit, and a fitting at a local shop is worth it for competitive players.
Kids typically grow 2 to 2.5 inches a year before their teen growth spurt, so a set with 5 inches of room often lasts about two seasons. Teens can grow faster.
